Top 100 British Mummy and Daddy Bloggers on Twitter

by Sally on August 8, 2010

One of the metrics we use to calculate the Tots100 index of the top 100 British parent blogs is Twitter – a massive proportion of parent bloggers are active on the network, and it can be a useful way to reach new audiences. For PR people too, it can be useful to know how influential a blogger is on Twitter, as it extends the potential reach of a PR campaign.

twittermummyblogsSo I took a look at our Tots100 data and using scores collected from Klout and Tweetlevel, have put together this list of the 100 top British Mummy and Daddy bloggers on Twitter. The scores are based in part on how many followers someone has, but also how likely their Tweets are to be re-tweeted, how influential their own followers are, and what proportion of their Tweets generate replies from other users.

Hi Sally , Loving the new blog :) Random question.. Does my twitter being on lockdown effect this? Half expected to find myself in the top 10! I’m not addicted.. honestly! ;o)

Hi

Thanks! It’s a work in progress, so there will be some changes over the next couple of weeks while I test out what we can do….

In terms of Twitter, yes, if your account is protected, Tweetlevel and Klout aren’t able to analyse it – which also affects your Tots100 score.

Interesting reading, hopefully one day I will make the list, although I think you have Mediocre Mums twitter address incorrect it has a _ in the middle.

Amended, thanks for that!

Interesting to see the parity between this list and the Tots 100 index. I’m not on this one at all – I choose to see it as good that I am not spending too much time on Twitter :)

It really is interesting, isn’t it?

I think it’s interesting that bloggers who score very highly on the index don’t necessarily score highly on Twitter and vice versa – you’re right, though, that some very successful bloggers don’t use Twitter extensively or perhaps only use it to talk to a relatively small group of friends.

I’m the opposite, I feature here, but not on the Tots100 index

I am highly amused to discover that despite failing to make it into the Tots100 with Tales from the Village, my witterings have given me a top 5 position! I’m in the charts. I feel like Madonna. Or at least Kajagoogoo.

Feeling like Kajagoogoo can’t ever be a bad thing, in my book.

Ummm! Interesting! I find it diffiuclt to imagine some of the placings given the criteria you have used. Amazed I’m on it!

admin August 9, 2010 at 10:58 PM

It’s literally ONLY blogs in the Tots100, and ONLY based on their Twitter network. So if you are in the Tots, Tweet a lot, with a lot of people – you’re on it!

Spudballoo August 9, 2010 at 11:39 AM

Oh interesting. I didn’t know about tweetlevel will have a look. I’m surprised not to be here (tush such arrogance!) given twitter addiction and have a good Klout profile. Must tweet more, and more influentially :-) MrSpud will be so happy. Ha.

I think Tweeting more is a splendid plan ;-)

Great idea – Might take me a while to work my way through the people I’m not already following though….

Some new people I’d never really followed before, too.

Hayley August 9, 2010 at 6:37 PM

I’m guessing this list was only made up of those on the tots100?

Reply

Yes, as stated in the post, this is just Twitter data from Tots100.

Are you registered for the Tots100? This is just based on the August index.

Reply

Mediocre Mum August 10, 2010 at 5:05 PM

I was absolutely thrilled to see I came out on top but when I sat down and thought about it I’ve worked out that it just means I’m gobby! :-) It is very interesting that I’m nearly 300th on the Tots100 index but scored well here. Makes me think I should give up blogging and stick to twitter! ;-)

Reply

Sally August 10, 2010 at 7:11 PM

The key is to be ‘influentially gobby’ I think you’ll find ;-)

And I do find it very interesting that some blogs which do very well on the overall index don’t do that brilliantly on Twitter – perhaps suggesting PRs (who are the ones using this sort of list mostly) need to take a two-pronged approach, I reckon. Or look for someone who does well across more than one social media platform.

The idea is great but only if you get the twitter name correct when calculating. My blog/company name is allabouttheboys, this user name was taken when I started twitter so I tweet under the name of allaboutheboys (only one t). My stats for this index were based on the American Twitter user who never tweets (Allabouttheboys) (two t’s) . All these stats are great in theory and can lead to wonderful opportunities but I certainly won’t be taking them so seriously in the future. Bah Humbug : )

Hi Karen

Actually your score wasn’t quite high enough to make the top 100, it’s not that we used an incorrect spelling but you scored one point lower than the blogger ranked 100th.

Sorry to disappoint you, but good to point out the two similar IDs and I’ll double check we’re using the right scores when we move to the new site, too.
